Siblings get discounts at some colleges

by Grace

Some colleges offers discounts for siblings who attend the same school, but this benefit is not always well promoted. Therefore, parents who are interested should check with prospective colleges during the search process.

George Washington University, one of the most expensive schools in the nation, offers one of the most attractive discounts.

At George Washington University in Washington, D.C., a Family Grant cuts tuition in half for a qualifying younger sibling who has a brother or sister enrolled and who would otherwise be charged full tuition.

Other schools that offer sibling discounts include  Western New England University in Massachusetts, Johnson and Wales University in Denver, and St. Anselm College in New Hampshire.

Twins and triplets qualify for special benefits at some colleges.

For twins and triplets, whose enrollment presumably overlaps for the entirety of college, there are additional savings opportunities. According to a list compiled on, schools that cut costs for twins and triplets include West Chester University of PennsylvaniaRandolph College in Virginia, and Sterling College in Kansas.

While you wouldn’t want to shoehorn a child into a particular college simply to get a sibling discount, this could be a way for some families to cut college costs.  And even when sibling attend different schools, having more than one child in college can lead to increased financial aid for some qualifying families.
